Letter: Why we can't get along

The Daily Herald gets a good number of letters from right-wing supporters repeating untrue or skewed information. I normally ignore these letters as there really is nothing you can say to people who believe these lies. But the letters from Thomas Gavin and Gary Jones compelled me to finally respond.

Mr. Gavin claims that the Daily Herald lacked integrity because it ran stories on the Russian election interference which Mr. Gavin refers to as a "wholly disproven Russian collusion hoax." Not sure that Donald Trump and Fox saying that it is wholly disproven means that's true. There was significant evidence that there was Russian interference and even that some Trump associates had willingness to share information with Russian intelligence.

Mr. Gavin also attacks the use of "Don't Say Gay" even though the phrase is not in the law. So should they also be condemned for using the phrase "Obamacare?"

Mr. Jones likes to repeat the GOP dog whistles of:

"Southern Border is open." The border is no more open or closed than it has been in decades - even under George Bush.

Mr. Jones mentions the high number of fentanyl deaths but doesn't assign any blame - maybe its implied?

He brings up Hunter Biden's laptop, implying that clearly Hunter Biden has broken the law in spite of all the ongoing investigations and no outcome yet has been identified. How about Ivanka and China patents or Jared and Saudi billions?

He also blames inflation on "wasteful climate issues" and COVID related programs. So the entire world must be doing the same thing since inflation is a worldwide problem.

Interestingly Mr. Jones wraps up his right-wing attack with "why can't we discuss our differences?" Perhaps if we dealt with facts and understanding the impact of global issues we could.
