Letter: Insulin prices not justified
Kudos to Lake County State's Attorney Eric Rinehart for the action he has initiated on the unwarranted cost of insulin (Daily Herald, April 19). The pharmaceutical companies have been bleeding unmerited profits from patients with diabetes without the slightest shame or remorse. Insulin has been around since the mid-1900s, and neither the tweaking of its structure nor its synthetic production justify the increases in price (particularly since the fundamentals for those developments were largely taxpayer funded).
