Letter: Walk the talk on crime

It's about time the City of Chicago, officials "walk the talk" when it comes to dealing with delinquent teenagers who cause mayhem in the downtown areas.

Rhetoric saying parents should know where the kids are does nothing to prevent future incidents. Making excuses for youth who are underprivileged only exacerbates the root cause of the issue, parents who don't care about their kids until something tragic happens to them.

Arrest the perps and fine them. if under age, fine their parents. Make the fines steep enough to make them think twice about repeating their actions.

The city and businesses are suffering because of these "underprivileged" delinquents who think they can get away with their actions because they are teenagers. Anyone who attacks a law enforcement officer needs to be arrested and held in jail, no matter what age they are. Not given a slap on the hand and released so they can do it again and again.
