Elgin Symphony Orchestra hosts 'Friday Favorites Music You Know Spring Edition'

You may not know the names, but you will recognize the music at the Elgin Symphony Orchestra's "Friday Favorites: Music You Know Spring Edition" concert on Friday, April 21.

The 6:30 p.m. concert will be held at Second Baptist Church of Elgin, 1280 Summit St.

Tickets must be purchased in advance through the Elgin Symphony Orchestra's website, www.elginsymphony.org, or box office, (847) 888-4000, Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

No tickets will be sold at the door.

Antoine T. Clark will conduct this concert, which features favorites from theater (Overture to "The Barber of Seville," Grieg's "Morning Mood"), American traditions (Florence Prices' "Suite of Dances", Copland's "Simple Gifts"), dance music from Dvorák and Brahms, and Grainger's traditional Irish melody "Danny Boy", and more.

The Friday Favorites concerts, implemented by the ESO this season, makes orchestra music approachable to newcomers with its shorter, recognizable pieces, while providing longtime symphony fans a chance to hear some of their favorite compositions in a more intimate setting.

Part of the Elgin community since 1950, and a professional nonprofit ensemble since 1985, the award-winning ESO provides world-class orchestral music experiences and brings renowned guest musicians and soloists to a local audience. As a 501(c)(3) organization, the ESO is committed to giving back to the community through programs including Musicians Care, Adopt-A-School, In Harmony, Ainsworth Concerts for Youth, and Listener's Clubs, as well as offering free tickets to its classics concerts for children age 17 and younger.
