Letter: What feels anachronistic is simply being smart
The April 8 opinion piece "Still doing this with flash drives" needs a second opinion. When I first read that the election systems used a flash drive to transfer voting tabulations, my reaction was also surprise. But further thought indicates that is a very responsible situation. It means there is no online networking connection between the back-end vote-counting systems and the more accessible front-end reporting systems. This "you can't get there from here" gap prevents hackers from drilling down from network to network to assault election results.
