Letter: Economy not dependent on president's party

In the April 6 opinion page, Paul Compton of Geneva blames Joe Biden for the present state of our economy and says the only way out is to vote Republican. Let me remind you that when George Bush left the office we were in a recession. Under Democratic President Obama's eight years in office, the Dow increased from 8,000 to 18,000, unemployment was down 50% and the value of the dollar surged.

The state of the economy is multifaceted and not as simple as the party of the president.
