District 23 names MacArthur Assistant Principal Stephanie Gage as principal of Betsy Ross

Prospect Heights School District 23 has named MacArthur Middle School assistant principal Stephanie Gage as the next principal of Betsy Ross Elementary School in Prospect Heights, replacing Craig Curtis, Ed.D., who is becoming the district's assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. The changes are effective July 1. The board of education approved the hiring at its meeting on April 12.

Superintendent Don Angelaccio, Ed.D., says Gage has proven herself as a strong leader since joining the district as assistant superintendent of MacArthur last July.

"Stephanie has a solid background as an administrator and teacher and has earned a great deal of respect from school staff, students and families in her first year with D23," he says. "We know she will be an excellent principal and leader for the Ross community."

Prior to joining MacArthur, Gage was assistant principal of Lincoln Middle School in Berwyn North School District 98. She was an elementary teacher in District 98 before that.

Gage holds a bachelor's degree in English from Northern Illinois University, a master's in elementary education from National Louis University and a master's in educational leadership from North Park University.

"I am honored to take on this leadership role at Ross," Gage says. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at MacArthur, especially getting to know the amazing staff, students and families. I am so thankful that I will continue to be part of D23, which is such a special community, and I look forward to becoming part of the Ross team."

Angelaccio thanks the interview committee that led the search for a Ross principal. He says the District is now looking for a new assistant principal to replace Gage at MacArthur.

District 23 serves approximately 1,480 pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade students in the communities of Prospect Heights, Arlington Heights and Wheeling, Ill., creating opportunities that inspire all students to grow as learners, individuals and citizens. Students attend Eisenhower Elementary, Betsy Ross Elementary, Anne Sullivan Elementary and MacArthur Middle School.
