Elgin Master Chorale to perform spring concert 'The Ordering of Moses' with ESO
On Saturday, April 15, the Elgin Master Chorale will perform "The Ordering of Moses" by R. Nathaniel Dett, featuring the Elgin Symphony Orchestra.
Audiences will sense the stirring emotion as Moses leads the Israelites to freedom through Dett's use of dynamic orchestral colors, impassioned solos and dramatic choral numbers.
Listen for the three spirituals interwoven into the musical structure of Moses: "Go Down, Moses," "When Moses Smote the Water," and "He is King of Kings."
Dett, a Black Canadian-American composer, recognized the importance of spirituals as the core of Black folk music and wrote his arrangements in a Western European classical style.
During the Saturday concert, the Elgin Master Chorale also will honor its longest serving choral member, Louise Tiemann, who is celebrating her 56th season with EMC. She has been an integral part of the growth and development of the group.
The concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on the stage of the Blizzard Theatre at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
Tickets are available through the ECC Arts Center box office, (847) 622-0300, or by visiting tickets.elgin.edu. Tickets are $29 or $24 for seniors and students.
