Jewelry stolen during Batavia ruse burglary

A Batavia resident's jewelry was stolen during a ruse burglary late last month, police said Wednesday.

A victim on the 300 block of Blair Street called police Tuesday morning and reported that someone claiming to be an employee of the Batavia Electrical Department had asked to investigate an issue sometime from March 27 to March 30.

The victim led the purported worker to the backyard. The scammer then left, promising to return later but never did.

Batavia police confirmed no city employee had been at the victim's home during that period.

Anyone with information about the case should call police at (630) 454-2500.
