Letter: Appalling comments

As a resident of East Dundee, I am appalled at comments made by neighbors when voicing their opinions regarding the Elgin Mall relocating to our community. We have always been a community that supports local businesses and values diversity and inclusiveness. Small-business owners who are willing to invest in this community should never be subjected to the hateful and racist rhetoric disguised as concerns around crime and safety that was on display. I sincerely hope that the Elgin Mall owners understand that the larger community welcomes them, and that they will be successful and supported by the residents of East Dundee.

To my neighbors that were so comfortable displaying their racism publicly yet hid behind the cloak of anonymity when asked to provide their name, we see you. Your behavior will not be normalized here.
