Incumbents leading in Barrington village board race
Barrington's recent attainment of home rule status was top of mind for all four village board candidates during the campaign.
Now, three of them, including two incumbents, appear to have the opportunity to act on it.
As of 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, incumbents Kate Duncan and Jason Lohmeyer were leading the pack of four candidates vying for three 4-year board seats.
Duncan garnered 775 votes closely followed by Lohmeyer with 756 votes, unofficial results show. Each collecting more than 28% of votes cast, Duncan and Lohmeyer campaigned as a team.
Brian Prigge earned 639 votes, or 23.7% of the total, while Margot Dallstream trailed with 523 votes, or 19.4% of the total.
Lohmeyer said home rule gives the village the advantage of doing multiyear contracts. Duncan said it gave the village the ability to hire "lateral" transfers for its police department.
Prigge said the village's home rule status would offer the opportunity to implement crime-free housing. Dallstream, who was endorsed by ACTION PAC, also noted the ability to negotiate multiyear contracts with vendors, but said the village would need to use home rule powers judiciously.
