Letter: Maintaining school quality is at stake
Currently, each of thefive high schools in D211 is ranked in (at least) the top 15% in the state of Illinois by U.S. News and World Report. In the upcoming April 4 school board election, it's important for voters to realize that maintaining the quality of our student's public education hangs in the balance.
Many taxpayers in D211 might be unaware that there is a group of candidates backed by religious extremists that seek to upend the solid progress made by our high school district over the years. With their insistence on making their religious beliefs preeminent in board decisions, our school board needs leaders who will stand up to those who aim to send D211 backward into a world where religion overrides the academic and intellectual growth of our students.
After checking out the qualifications and experience of the candidates, Rosenblum, Cavill, Barron, and Russell clearly have what it takes. They represent the best opportunity we have to ensure that the high standard of public education we've enjoyed in our community is sustained in a reasoned and equitable manner.
