Two Chicago men charged with stealing perfume in Oak Brook, leading officers in a chase
Bond has been set at $50,000 each for two Cook County men charged with burglary and fleeing from authorities in a high-speed chase, officials said Friday.
Kovadis Stewart, 29, of the 5900 block of Paulina St., Chicago, and Antwan Davis, 46, of the 1600 block of S. St. Louis, Chicago, are accused of stealing perfume from Ulta, 2155 22nd St., Oak Brook, according to a news release from the DuPage County state's attorney's office.
Oak Brook police responded to the store for a report of retail theft about 6 p.m. Thursday, the release stated.
According to the release, Davis entered the store alone and went directly to the fragrance section; he brought a tote bag and filled it with nine fragrances, worth a total of $1,250.27.
Davis left the store without paying and was picked up by a vehicle parked along the storefront curb, driven by Stewart, and the two then drove away, the release said.
Officers spotted the car shortly after, and from there Stewart led officers on a high-speed chase along Butterfield Road at speeds of up to 78 mph in a 35 mph zone, officials said.
Officers were able to stop the vehicle by using spike strips at I-290 and Mannheim Road, and Stewart and Davis were taken into custody. the release said.
State's Attorney Robert Berlin said this is the third time this week DuPage County law enforcement has been involved in high-speed chases.
The next court appearance for Davis is April 19, and Stewart's is April 20.
