Endorsements: Williams, Ruffolo and Castillo for Addison District 4 school board
This endorsement is a consensus opinion of the Daily Herald Editorial Board.
At least one new face will be elected to the Addison District 4 school board when voters make their picks to fill three 4-year seats.
The question is whether all three challengers - Eddie Castillo, Evdoxia Ioanna Gonzalez and Daniel Alexander Medina - can defeat longtime incumbents Dave Williams and Sergio Ruffolo.
Williams is the most experienced candidate in the race. He has served on the District 4 school board since 1999 and has been board president since 2005.
He says the district has been fiscally responsible with taxpayer money while providing quality education. He says he is seeking another term partly because he wants to help guide the district's efforts to improve student achievement.
Ruffolo is another board member with a long record of service to the district. He has been on the school board since 2005 and is running again because he enjoys doing what he can to help children become successful adults.
We also are very impressed with Castillo, who works in law enforcement.
Castillo, a parent with three children in the district, said he's running because he wants to improve school performance, reduce truancy rates and encourage District 4 to work with other governmental entities - including the library, township and village - to find ways to save money.
Castillo also wants the district's schools to be made safer than they are now.
Williams, Ruffolo and Castillo are endorsed.
