Endorsements: Tingpalpong, Lewis and Figueroa for District 100 school board

This endorsement is a consensus opinion of the Daily Herald Editorial Board.

In Fenton High School District 100, four people are vying for three 4-year seats on the school board.

The candidates in the race are three incumbents - Kit Tingpalpong, Cary Lewis and Leonel Figueroa - and one challenger, Reid Goodrich.

Tingpalpong, a certified financial fiduciary from Wood Dale, says school board members must be fiscally responsible and work to maximize tax dollars to help students "learn and develop into the best versions of themselves." He also talks about the need to represent all the voices in the community.

Lewis, a civil engineer from Wood Dale, was appointed to the school board in December 2021. He says he is seeking election because he is passionate about investing in young people and wants them to have the best the community can offer.

Figueroa, a Bensenville resident, says he's concerned because the high school is aging and needs repairs. In November, Fenton voters rejected a proposed tax hike to fund a $99 million plan to modernize the building and campus.

As for Goodrich, he decided not to fill out a candidate questionnaire and declined to participate in an endorsement interview, limiting the ability for us and for voters to evaluate his qualifications.

But we know Tingpalpong, Lewis and Figueroa are committed to helping students are already serving effectively. They are endorsed.
