Letter: The risks of voter apathy

Local elections matter. In the small picture, they're the elections that affect our day-to-day life more than anything else.

Library boards, school boards, village trustees? They are the organizations and elected members that will make decisions that affect opportunities and daily life for the citizens of their community.

According to the Cook County Clerk's office, only 16% of eligible registered voters voted in the April 6, 2021, election. Sixteen percent. This abysmal turnout is because of voter apathy and laziness.

Make a plan to vote in our upcoming municipal election on April 4. If you feel inspired, vote early, starting on March 20. Talk to your household members, family, friends, neighbors.

We must do our civic duty and take care of our communities by voting for candidates that want to get in there and do the work. The least we can do is do our part by voting.
