Letter: Expect candidates to answer tough questions
It's less than a month away, and we're seeing the signs on the roads. I hope people will go beyond those signs and try to determine what District 300 candidates stand for.
When candidates avoid questions by changing the subject, or saying they don't know enough, they've given you an answer. I asked a candidate where they stood on school vouchers. This is an issue that has been discussed at various levels for a few decades. The response I got from this particular candidate was that they didn't know enough about the issue.
From my perspective, if you don't know whether you do, or do not, support vouchers because you don't know enough about the issue, you shouldn't be running for the school board.
Hopefully, people will ask candidates the tough questions and not allow candidates to avoid answering the important questions. If they have one, start with a candidates Web page and see if they are answering the tough questions.
