Letter: Candidate has strong background, record

For the past two years, I have served as a member of the Wheaton Community Relations Commission, which reports to the mayor and City Council.

Throughout my participation with the commission, one city council member has consistently been involved in the events that we plan and organize for our community. That council member is Erica Bray-Parker.

From the Festival of Cultures, which celebrates the many cultures of our very own Wheaton residents, to programs we host in partnership with other Wheaton organizations, such as the Wheaton Public Library, Downtown Wheaton Association, DuPage Art League and others, Erica shows up to actively support our commission and more importantly, our community. She always acknowledges our efforts and thanks us for our service as volunteers.

A social studies teacher at Glenbard High School District 87, Erica's background as an educator adds balance to a council that mainly includes members with professional business careers.

Erica is thoughtful when considering issues that impact our community, and she believes in nurturing collaborative relationships with boards and commissions, local businesses, not-for-profit organizations and Wheaton residents in order to strengthen our community.

For these reasons, I am voting to re-elect Councilwoman Bray-Parker on April 4 and encourage Wheaton voters to consider her background, her record and her commitment and dedication to our community over the past four years.
