District 23 Names Ross Principal Craig Curtis as New Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum/Instruction

Prospect Heights School District 23 has named Betsy Ross School principal Craig Curtis, Ed.D., as the next assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, effective July 1. The D23 Board of Education approved his hiring at its meeting on March 8.

Superintendent Don Angelaccio, Ed.D., says Curtis is respected throughout the District and is well prepared for the new role, given that he has served as a successful principal, assistant principal and elementary education teacher.

"Dr. Curtis has a strong background in all subject areas and has proven his leadership abilities and dedication to the equity of all students," Angelaccio says. "He has cultivated a positive school culture, facilitated strong professional development and developed school-wide programs that are responsive to the needs of all students."

Curtis has served as principal of Ross for 11 years. Prior to that, he was an assistant principal in North Berwyn School District 98 for two years, and an elementary education teacher for eight years before that. He holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Northern Illinois University, a master's in educational leadership from Northeastern Illinois University and doctorate in educational leadership from National Louis University.

"It has been a great honor to serve as principal of Ross," Curtis says. "I now look forward to being part of the stellar administrative team and working to help all the district's students grow as learners, individuals and citizens."

Curtis replaces Amy Zaher, Ed.D., who has taken a superintendent position in another district. He will work with Zaher and the rest of the administrative team to ensure a smooth transition ahead of the new school year. District 23 has started the process of finding a new principal for Ross.

Angelaccio thanks the interview committee that led the assistant superintendent search.

"Their time and dedication to the selection process were greatly appreciated and will continue to contribute to the success of our already outstanding school district," he says.

"We are excited to welcome Dr. Curtis into this new role. We believe his leadership will continue to move our district forward as we create opportunities that inspire all students to grow."

District 23 serves approximately 1,480 pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade students in the communities of Prospect Heights, Arlington Heights and Wheeling, Ill., creating opportunities that inspire all students to grow as learners, individuals and citizens. Students attend Eisenhower Elementary, Betsy Ross Elementary, Anne Sullivan Elementary and MacArthur Middle School.
