Letter: Involve Congress in Ukraine aid decisions
After reading Byron York's column on March 2, I agree that the USA should be supporting Ukraine with war material and ammunition. However, the dollars are now so great that further contributions should be authorized through Congress, given that we have not entered a formal declaration of war on Russia. After a year of such largesse, we have far exceeded any leeway for the President's emergency powers.
Further, we ought to get periodic reports as to the amounts other NATO countries are giving to the Ukrainian defense. Then we would know we are not being taken advantage of by our allies, as they might treat a dumb, rich uncle who seems willing to provide disproportionate funding without questions. We need more transparency in this diplomacy.
