Palatine named Tree City USA for 37th consecutive year
Palatine has earned Tree City USA recognition and a Growth Award through the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
The recognition means the village has met the program's four requirements: maintaining a tree board or department; having a tree care ordinance; spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry; and celebrating Arbor Day.
Growth Awards are presented to Tree City USA communities that demonstrate higher levels of tree care and community engagement during the calendar year.
Palatine has been a Tree City USA community for the past 37 years and has earned Growth Awards for the past nine years, village officials say.
The village's Public Works Department's Forestry Division takes great pride in caring for the urban forest and maintaining the Tree City USA status, officials said.
