Fire damages home under construction in Palatine
A home under construction in Palatine was damaged in a fire Monday night that officials say was sparked by plumbing work earlier in the day.
Firefighters were called to the house on the 500 block of South Oak Street at 8:10 p.m. after neighbors reported seeing something burning in the yard.
No one was inside the building at the time of the fire. No injuries to firefighters were reported.
The blaze was extinguished within 15 minutes of firefighters' arrival, and they were on scene until 10:42 p.m. checking for hot spots and performing salvage operations.
Investigators believe the fire was likely sparked by plumbing work that required use of a blowtorch.
No damage estimate was immediately available.
