Letter: Candidates have served district well

Public schools continue to be under attack, and with inflation and the waning months of the pandemic giving rise to more uncertainty, we need steady and experienced leadership to continue to help our schools achieve the ultimate goal of educating our children.

In Glen Ellyn, we have been fortunate to have elementary schools ranked in the top 10% statewide, with excellent teachers and programs.

The current school board and administration have done an admirable job keeping staff engaged and committed during a time when there is a national teacher shortage due to job dissatisfaction.

This election season, we have three highly qualified candidates seeking reelection to the Glen Ellyn D41 school board: Jessica Buttimer, Ted Estes and Julie Hill. All three are finishing their first four-year term, during which they have worked with a brand new superintendent, navigated through an unprecedented pandemic, and weathered other issues admirably.

Serving on the school board is often a thankless job, filled with discordant parents and community members often launching personal attacks.

Yet all three have continued to be dedicated public servants, diligently preparing for each meeting, and engaging in thoughtful discussion of each issue they face.

In particular, I am thankful for their commitment to keep our schools gun free, as well as their reliance on data to drive their decisions.

They are doing the hard work with our community's best interest in mind.

I am grateful to have these community members step up once again to serve our schools; they have my vote, and they should have yours.
