Six Elgin businesses hit in smash-and-grab burglaries

Six smash-and-grab burglaries occurred early Monday along McLean Boulevard and Dundee Avenue in Elgin.

Officers who responded to burglar alarms at the businesses between 1 and 2 a.m. found shattered windows, the Elgin Police Department said in a social media post.

Police encourage business owners to install security systems and to remove cash from registers after closing. Cash registers also should be locked and kept out sight, police advise.
