Letter: A clarification on Kinzinger

In the Our View portion of the Jan. 7, 2023, editorial page the Daily Herald praised Adam Kinzinger for his congressional career, stating he was " ... one of only two Republicans willing to serve on the House Jan. 6 committee ..."

That's a rather serious error; it's misinformation. Two outspoken Republican supporters of Trump volunteered to serve on the committee: Jim Banks of Indiana and Jim Jordan of Ohio. But Nancy Pelosi refused to seat them, claiming they could not be impartial. Then she picked two outspoken Republican critics of Trump (Kinzinger and Liz Cheney), claiming they, along with four outspoken Democratic critics of Trump, could be impartial. Thus, we had a laughably "impartial, bipartisan" committee sitting in judgment of a man the entire panel loathed.

Kinzinger is no statesman. He simply parlayed his membership on the committee to a job with the left-leaning CNN, where he will enjoy a much bigger paycheck than he was getting in the House.
