Two Elgin churches to host joint Lenten dinner services

During the season of Lent, First Presbyterian Church of Elgin and Christ the Lord Lutheran Church will host a joint Dinner Church on Wednesday evenings.

The first Dinner Church event will be on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22.

It will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church on 12N462 Tina Trail on the west side of Elgin. This free event is open to everyone.

The Dinner Church event is centered around sharing a meal together, having great conversation with one another, a chance to build new friendships, and to join together in worship with music and celebration.

Both the dinner and worship time will all be held around tables together.

In addition, there will be an introduction around the theme of the evening including a short homily along with open discussion.

The first theme for Dinner Church will be "Seeking." Jesus encounters many people who are seeking such as Nicodemus in the dark of night, a man born blind, and the woman at the well. Each of these people is seeking a new beginning, a different life, and a deeper faith.

Like many of the characters in these stories, they are also seeking many things, especially in this time of uncertainty after COVID, declining church membership, and shifts in culture with increased division.

They are also seeking clarity, connection, wonder, justice, and how to live as disciples. Throughout the turbulence of the last two years, many are asking big questions about their lives and faith. They hope to unpack some of these questions during this series, such as what am I seeking, but also, what is God seeking?

Join them on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Christ the Lord for a time of exploration and newness, as they continue to seek new ways to worship God and grow in their faith.
