Letter: Gun law lacks process for owners to comply

With all the hullabaloo about the new gun law, I went online to see how someone could register their guns to be in compliance. I quickly found out there is no site, no forms available on any Illinois State Police or any other Illinois site where an individual can register a weapon. There are forms to apply for a FOID card or a concealed carry permit, but nothing to be able to register a gun. As I investigated further, I found out there will not be any forms or sites available to register weapons until at least October of this year or later.

In other words, the state of Illinois passed a law that became effective Jan. 10 abd which local, county, and city governments are stating must be enforced by our law officers ... but it is currently impossible for the individual gun owner to actually comply with the law. So, anybody who owns any weapon now classified as being illegal is a criminal and can be arrested and fined even though there is no way to comply with the law.

So our brilliant politicians and legislators passed a law and are demanding enforcement without researching if there was any way the individual citizen could actually comply with the law. Typical of Illinois politicians and lawmakers.
