Letter: Distasteful cartoon

The cartoon in the Daily Herald depicting the thin blue line tearing through a heart reading "Mom, Mom, Mom," is distasteful and is intended to heighten emotional destress in the viewers. Intentional or not, this will further foster public distrust in our police. As a leader in our community, the Daily Herald has an obligation to report news and not garner hate. There are more than 700,000 police officers in this nation. The vast majority are decent, honorable individuals who risk their lives on a daily basis to protect citizens.

For your edification, that thin blue line represents the invisible divide between police and lawlessness. To mock it or to desecrate it is repugnant and disrespects every police officer who has made the ultimate sacrifice while doing what most citizens are afraid to do.
