DAR donates pollinator plant seed packets to Barrington library

When the Barrington Area Library's Seed Library opens for the season, local gardeners will find hundreds of free pollinator plant seed packets, thanks to a generous donation from the Barrington-based Signal Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Seeds for 11 different native pollinator plants will be available, along with more than 100 other seed varieties. Adult Services Librarian Liz Kirchhoff expressed the library's gratitude.

"Seeds for native pollinator plants are in high demand in our community, and the DAR's substantial donation allows us to be well stocked and ready to meet that need," said Kirchhoff.

The Seed Library contains a variety of seeds for vegetables, flowers, herbs and more. Most seeds are organic and non-GMO and are appropriate for garden beds and container gardening.

Signal Hill Chapter Conservation Chairman Jennifer Lucas believes this donation will have a positive impact on people and the environment. Patrons will enjoy the experience of growing a garden from seed, while helping native wildlife, butterflies, birds, people and the planet.

All are encouraged to stop by the Seed Library, which will be available during regular library business hours.

The Signal Hill Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded 50 years ago in Barrington. Due to fundraising efforts throughout the year, the chapter contributes financially to several 501(c)3 organizations whose missions support that of NSDAR - historic preservation, education, patriotism, conservation, and Native Americans.
