Letter: Mundelein High plan is too costly
Mundelein High School District 120 is looking for $175 million to upgrade the high school. That's a lot of dough, especially in these tenuous economic times.
I don't see how a cafeteria and a theater cost that much. No doubt, both are needed but not necessarily all at once. After all, the district didn't see the need to increase the capacity of the cafeteria or renovate the theater back in 2014 with a nearly $24 million windfall. And that was a much more palatable sum.
Their fiscal incompetence was front and center in 2016 when they paid $1.6 million for the Kirk of the Lakes church next door. Not exactly prime real estate then or now.
Have they considered revenue from the nearly 600 new homes coming online within the next year or two? That's roughly $2 million a year to their coffers.
I, and I'm sure many other Mundelein residents, would strongly urge them to reevaluate their plans before the spring ballots are printed. This one is a lost cause with that hefty price tag.
