Letter: Frustrating ups and downs with Bears

Every morning I turn to my favorite publication (The Daily Herald) and read about the on again/off again "promise" of the Chicago Bears becoming our neighbors in Arlington Heights. One day it looks like we will have a storied professional football franchise in our midst, and the next day, "Hold on, folks, not so fast."

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is going to do everything in her power to keep "Chicago" in the Chicago Bears. Whether it's rebuilding Soldier Field into a dream football castle, using the city's far-reaching financial resources, promoting the exquisite lakefront and the stadium's accessibility or countless other enticing maneuvers, she will not give up.

Arlington Heights Mayor Tom Hayes talks optimistically about how we can solve the funding problem and tries to drive home the point that the Bears will actually OWN the Arlington Heights version of their future home.

I submit that having George Halas' descendants in our town is exciting and will add a new identity to the place I have called home for 48 years. But the way the "promise" is unfolding is confusing, disappointing and so inconsistent that I am tired of reading or talking about it.

Sure, it's complicated, but it ain't easy for a fan like me to rise and fall with every forever changing news report.
