One person dead after crash on I-88 near Aurora

Illinois State Police are investigating a crash the killed the driver of a car that rear-ended a flatbed tractor-trailer Wednesday on Interstate 88 near Aurora.

A 27-year-old woman from Chicago has been identified as the victim of the crash. Her name is being withheld until her family is notified.

According to state police, the crash occurred just after 4 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-88 past Farnsworth Avenue near the Mitchell Road overpass.

Authorities said a silver 2018 Chevrolet Malibu crashed into the tractor-trailer driven by a West Chicago man before careening into a ditch.

The driver was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, authorities said.

The outermost lanes of westbound I-88 were closed for several hours as part of the crash investigation.
