Palatine library hosts the traveling exhibit Telling a People's Story

The Palatine Public Library is hosting the traveling exhibit Telling a People's Story through Thursday, Jan. 26.

This exhibit explores African American cultural identity and history through children's authors and illustrators. The exhibit is located on the second floor of the Main Library, next to the Information Desk.

This exhibit focuses on the art featured in African American children's picture books to lend new perspective to visitors. The panels give positive self-image and representation to those who need it, and give insight to the African American experience to better understand the cultural, historical and social constructs of African American identity.

"We've been wanting to host this exhibit for several years, and are thrilled to have finally made it happen," said librarian and exhibit coordinator Tracie Padal.

"We hope that Telling a People's Story brings our community together in service of a common goal - understanding one another and our nation's history."

Created by Miami University Art Museum, these panels feature more than a dozen picture books with the intention to offer a creative and educational way to raise awareness. Along with the panels in the exhibit, scavenger hunt sheets are available so that you can explore the exhibit and check off items that you recognize on the sheet.
