Letter: Thanks to police for taking safety to heart

A few weeks ago, I raised safety concerns over east Oak Street to the Lake in the Hills village board. Oak Street is a road bearing up to 2,600 vehicles a day, and some drivers believe they are extras in a "Fast and Furious" movie. speeding recklessly up to twice the speed limit.

The road has no sidewalks and lacks appreciable shoulders for pedestrians.

The board listened and assigned the issue to the chief of police as well as having an engineering study done. The result was the placement of yellow pedestrian caution signs along intervals of the roadway. While this assumes the drivers can or will read, it is a promising step to safeguarding pedestrian traffic along Oak Street.

So, thank you board members and Chief Frake for recognizing the concerns and taking action.
