Letter: Not enforcing the law is the same as breaking it

Prior to the passage of the recent gun laws, the objectors invariably pointed out that they were law-abiding citizens and shouldn't be burdened by any attempt to safeguard the rest of us.

Wenow have a new law in place that lets them retain their precious devices but requires them to register them. The result is we now seem to have some sheriffs who won't enforce the law, some who will but only in conjunction with the breaking of some other law and gun owners who will not register their weapons.

Lawmen who refuse to uphold the law are guilty of breaking the law themselves. Citizens who refuse to register will be breaking the law.

Oh, and lest I forget, the real winners: the trove of lawyers, willing to file suit against the new law and gleefully collect their fees.

The only ingredient missing is a concern for the general public's safety and well-being.
