Letter: The corruption of dark money

Thank you for your proposals to discuss the importance of election integrity. One topic you seemed to omit, the one most detrimental, is the corrupting forces of dark money in our political decision making process.

When fossil fuel oligarchs, Wall Street plutocrats, the NRA, Pharma and health care CEOs are allowed to literally bribe our politicians, it has a disastrous effect on the well-being of society.

Thanks to the 2010 Citizens United and 2014 McCutcheon decisions, our right0wing SCOTUS has enabled greedy sociopathic billionaires who fund politicians to literally write their own legislation.

Then they use their right-wing propaganda machine to dupe gullible Americans into voting against their own interests. We interact with these friends, family, neighbors and co-workers daily, while having to challenge their delusional beliefs.

We all have to deal with Americans brainwashed to believe climate change is a hoax, COVID is not real, vaccines are poison, the borders are wide open, socialism and communism are coming to America, or to espouse absurdities like "keep your government hands off my Medicare," demonic liberals drink the blood of children or that their traitorous cult leader was the greatest president of all time.

All of our societal ills can be traced back to the dark money of narcissists.

Dark Money is the root of all evil. It is essential we eliminate it.
