Letter: Changes needed in selecting judges
I agree with the changes supported by the Daily Herald and the reasons for them. I have never felt informed enough to intelligently form my own opinion on the qualifications of judges and then vote on them.
I often simply don't vote in the judicial races. Something I have been doing to protest retention elections is to mostly vote no. I realize this could cause a problem if everyone did this, but maybe causing the problem would result in action to have elected executives appoint judges based on merit for defined lengths of time rather than this silly way of having mostly under-informed voters determine if a judge should be retained or not.
I also support ranked choice voting (RCV). I agree with the Daily Herald's reasoning on this. In addition, I think/hope it would decrease partisanship and the importance of party affiliation. George Washington correctly predicted the harms of political parties.
