Elgin Donor Club raises $11,000 for local charities

The Donor Club of Elgin held its annual book review and luncheon on Sept. 22 at Elgin Country Club with 216 people in attendance. Proceeds from the luncheon, book review, raffle baskets, and cookie and book sales raised $11,000 for local charities.

The recipients included All People's Interfaith Food Pantry, Boys & Girls Club of Elgin, Community Crisis Center, ECC Purses with Purpose, Ecker Center for Mental Health, Hands of Hope, One Hope United, Feeding Greater Elgin, PADS of Elgin, Well Child, and Family Service Association of Greater Elgin.

The highlight of the afternoon was Jenny Riddle's review of three different books and three remarkable women: Laura Claridge's biology of Emily Post "Mistress of American Manners," "The Bag Lady Papers" by Alexandra Penny, and "You Look Fine Really" by Christine Mellor.
