Letter: Dwelling on the past

In Susan Estrich's Jan. 1 column, she actually compared the integrity of people attending institutions of higher learning (Harvard, Crimson and Wellesley) with "the former president of the United States" who broke "bread with a man who finds good things to like about Hitler ...". Anyone who has read her columns in the past knows she detests that president. So why would anyone make excuses for people at those universities who "embraced the anti-Israel trope" by invoking "the former president" as a reason to in any way excuse their behavior? Since "the former president" has been out of office two years, it's time to not use him as a scapegoat for others's behaviors, especially people who should be considered intelligent enough to take credit or blame for their own actions and words. It's time to go forward and quit dwelling on the past.
