Donovan: Ball making slow progress with recovery
Bulls coach Billy Donovan provided a brief recovery update on injured point guard Lonzo Ball before Friday's game. Ball hasn't played since last January and has been through two arthroscopic surgeries on his left knee.
"Regularly on the court shooting, which has been good," Donovan said of Ball. "Actually jumping a little bit as he's shooting. He's been doing some light jogging and working through some of that stuff.
"Like we last talked, it is progressing, it's just really slow. But there has definitely been some improvements and he's actually doing more physically than the last time we spoke."
Donovan was asked if the Bulls have enough at point guard on the current roster to survive if Ball doesn't make it back this season. Ayo Dosunmu has been starting at point guard, and Donovan often uses Alex Caruso at point.
"I feel like there's enough there that we can manage that position with what we have," Donovan said. "Is Ayo a pure point guard? Can he get better? Absolutely, he needs to.
"Coby (White) I think was there my first year, is he better suited off the ball? He's kind of a combo, he can do both. I feel comfortable that whoever's back there can orchestrate and organize us."
