Letter: Enough of the 'extreme' labels, Democrats
With the passing of the midterm elections, I thought I wouldn't have to hear the word "extreme" for a while. Every single Democrat commercial on TV labeled Republican candidates as "extreme" and "radical." You think it was the end of world if you voted for a Republican.
Alas, I'm not able to shake those labels. In her Dec. 15 column, Jamie Stiehm uses the word "extreme" to characterize the 9-member Supreme Court, specifically the five justices who voted to overturn the infamous Roe v Wade decision that legalized abortion in 1972.
Her ire is mainly directed at the June decision to overturn Roe: "Never ever in history has the Court stripped a constitutional right." Excuse me, but nowhere in the U.S. Constitution does it give a woman the right to kill an unborn child. If it does, please show me.
If anything, the 1973 Court, which rendered the ruling. I maintain that never ever in the history of the United States has a Supreme Court created something that wasn't there to begin with.
In the end, the Supreme Court is probably political, just like everything else in our democracy. It shouldn't be, but that's the way it is. Stop the whining and get over it.
