Aurora police raise $10,400 for pancreatic cancer research

Aurora police officers and staff raised $10,400 for pancreatic cancer research, diagnosis and treatment in their annual "No-Shave November" contest.

The money was donated to the Lustgarten Foundation, which has a mission to cure pancreatic cancer by funding scientific and clinical research, providing research information and clinical support services to patients, caregivers and individuals at high risk, and increasing public awareness and hope for those dealing with the disease.

Participants competed in categories, including "The Saint Nick" and "Best Try." The person with the most luxurious facial hair was given the Don Corp Award, named after a sergeant who died in March 2016 of pancreatic cancer.

"We have a lot of fun with this event, and the main reason we do this is to honor Sgt. Don Corp," Chief Keith Cross said in a news release. "This is our way of keeping his memory alive as well as being able to donate money to pancreatic cancer research."
