Letter: Serious questions about hazardous waste plans
A large hazardous waste trucking facility has been proposed to be built at the current site of Center Ice at 1N450 Highland Ave in Glen Ellyn. The location is just a few hundred feet from the Great Western Trail and just across the street from a school, church and hundreds of homes.
Please join us to oppose this dangerous development and new traffic on Main Street immediately north of the GWT crossing from trucks carrying hazardous waste:
We have many questions about the Silvicom hazardous waste truck petition that will be presented to the DuPage County Development Committee on Jan. 3.
What is the hazardous waste? Why is it hazardous? What operating hours and days of the week are being considered?
Will the trucks be cleaned at the site and what happens to the waste water and waste? Will waste be stored at the site?
What government agency will regulate their operation and adherence to the agreed upon rules? Will trucks containing waste be parked there and/or on Poss street adjacent to the GWT? How many trucks will be allowed at the site?
With the predominant winds from the west what provisions will be made to protect the school children and church that is immediately to the east? Same question for users of the GWT and homeowners immediately to the south when the wind is from the north.
Thank you for your time and consideration of our concerns and questions.
