Letter: More-accurate depictions
As a proud Jew, I want to thank and commend the Daily Herald on their timely and appropriate articles on important Jewish Holidays. I find the articles both informative and educational. Studies have shown the more educated and informed one is, the less likely they are to hate and commit acts of hate. This applies to all groups that some people perceive to look, act or believe outside their own belief system. What I have also noticed is that when the Daily Herald prints these important articles they are often accompanied by a photo of a Rabbi from a Chabad Synagogue. "Chabad" is a branch of Orthodox Jewery which is not the branch most Jewish people belong to. Thus, when your readers, who don't know better, see the photos of an Orthodox rabbi, they quite possibly believe that is what most Jews look like. This is anything but accurate. Fact is, walking down the streets of the Northwest Suburbs Jews would look just like our Christian neighbors.
