Letter: We're still making job harder for police

While it seens appropriate to say the most recent SAFE-T act "trailer bill" cleaned up some problematic language, why is nobody concerned with the provision limiting powers of arrest for minor offenses and some misdemeanors? (Despite reports to the contrary, it's still there.)

Those offenses wouldn't result in unreasonable or unnecessary detention under the new pretrial release rules, and the ability to make a physical arrest for any offense is a valuable tool law enforcement uses to do their job.

You wouldn't limit the types of tools your car mechanic or plumber have access to when they fix your property. Why would we remove valuable crime fighting tools from police, especially at a time when crime runs rampant in our communities?

If we want better cops, we should not be making law enforcement more complicated. We should luse the same arrest standards that hve been effective for decades.
