Grass Lake School project shines a light on reading
Fourth and fifth grade students at Grass Lake School recently gathered with their flashlights in hand for a new reading experience.
This was not going to be just a "reading in the dark" experience, but a fun activity that required the flashlights in order to see the secrets hidden in plain sight.
Fifth grade teacher Debra Ryan and fourth grade teacher Jennifer Bautista have been paired up this trimester for a Project Based Learning project dedicated to finding out "How Can We Get Students More Excited About Reading?"
Finding novel ways to keep children interested and engaged in reading has been on the forefront of teachers' minds this year. This led them to take students to Susanna Farms to read to the animals. The teachers are hoping to gain more engagement for each student, which would serve as encouragement for all levels of readers.
Bautista shared that she has seen students become more patient with varying reading abilities and supporting one another to become better readers.
In January the students will be creating their take on how to motivate students to read.
