Letter: A climate solution
Most Americans, surveys say, are concerned about climate change. If you are like me, you don't want to hear about the problems. We need solutions.
One easy one that will make a lot of difference is for each of us to sign onto community solar. The most important thing we can do now is get our electricity from "green" sources (wind and solar), not from fossil fuels like gas or coal.)
Planting native plants in our yards is another super solution. But community solar is the easiest. There is no outlay of money to purchase the panels and get a company to install them. There are no contracts, no fees, nothing to sign. You can stop anytime. You will save money too. And it's a way to "love your neighbor" when you care enough to help lessen climate change.
There are many companies doing this, thanks to CEJA, the Clean Energy and Equitable Jobs Act signed into law in Illinois in 2021. But Elgin area residents can sign onto community solar under a city-endorsed project on their website at: cityofelgin.org/communitysolar.
Or find any plan you like. The city's plan offers 20% savings on your electric bill, others offer 10% and if "community-driven community solar" starts up soon, it will offer 20% also.
Don't wait, get on the list now as solar farms are being set up. Go greener and be part of the solutions to climate change - while we are waiting for the government to take the steps they need to take. We are faster than they are. Go greenest.
