Letter: First, admit loss in 2020

The column by Bob Oswald in the Nov. 13 Daily Herald was spot-on, highlighting the substantial amount of recent midterm elections misinformation spread by various sources - including former President Trump. Trump's fake news ploy did not work as well the second time around, as savvy voters trounced those Republicans who continued to spout it. Yet in light of this, Trump has subsequently made the "Big Announcement" regarding his candidacy for 2024, and it seems a good opportunity to make mention how the terminal braggart could still manage to wield yet another damaging blow to our country he so fervently claims to love.

For two long years, Trump has continued to ride his dead horse "The Big Steal," spreading the blatant lie that he won the presidency twice, both in 2016 and 2020. In reality he only won the first time, never publicly conceding the second race, or congratulating the true winner, President Joe Biden.

Therefore, if he continues to promote his "lie of two wins," we the people must then force the issue of the 22nd Amendment to The Constitution. Ratified in 1951, it expressly states in part, that no person shall be elected to the office of the president more than twice. In view of this law, will his advisers counsel him to abruptly drop at least this one lie from his moldy repertoire, and encourage him to promote the idea it was all a misunderstanding in the form of a bad joke?

In short, Trump and those who may vote for him should he receive his party's nomination, must now either publicly acknowledge that he didn't win in 2020, or dismiss altogether the existence of the 22nd Amendment to The Constitution. For Trump, at least, this last act should not be a difficult one.
