Officials seek to identify woman whose skeletal remains were found in Libertyville
Officials said Monday that the partially skeletonized human remains discovered Saturday morning along a Libertyville road and in nearby woods belonged to a woman they are working to identify.
Stephen Newton, Lake County chief deputy coroner, said the office performed an autopsy on the remains Monday and have sent tissue samples to a lab for further analysis.
Officials are working to determine both how and when the woman died, he said.
While the circumstances of the woman's death are still under investigation, authorities believe there is no threat to the public.
"This is not something the public should be concerned with," Newton said Monday afternoon.
Libertyville police responded about 8:15 a.m. Saturday to the 1800 block of Hollister Drive after receiving a report that partial skeletal remains had been found along the roadway. With the assistance of Lake County sheriff's police dog Dax, officers searched a nearby wooded area and discovered more remains, officials said.
Newton confirmed Monday that all the remains discovered are from the same woman.
