Aurora faith communities gather to celebrate Thanksgiving

Aurora faith communities gathered Sunday, Nov. 20, for an early Thanksgiving celebration.

More than 100 members of Christian, Jewish, Muslim and other congregations celebrated at Society 57 venue in downtown Aurora.

Themed "Praying for Peace," the 15th annual observance was sponsored by InterFAITh Aurora, an ecumenical group.

Called a celebration of music and friendship, the event featured music, prayers and readings by local congregants.

A freewill collection was taken to benefit the Community Fridge, a food-sharing pantry in downtown Aurora.

Luma Webster of Community Fridge expressed appreciation for the donation.

Readings were offered by Susan Bachmeier of the Aurora Human Relations Commission; Rabbi Edward Friedman of Temple B'nai Israel; Imam Charles Muhammad of Al Aqsa Mosque; the Rev. Brandon Perrine of New England Congregational Church; the Rev. Julie Grafe of Our Savior Lutheran; Bahá'ís of Aurora; and United for Peace.

Music was provided by vocalist-guitarist Michelle Curiel, Wesley United Methodist Church; First Ward youth group, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; and St. John AME praise choir and sign singers.
